The medication is then absorbed into your dogs bloodstream in order to protect him/her against canine heartworms and adult fleas. Revolution also prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month. Ear mites, sarcoptic mange mites, and American dog ticks are also effectively controlled and treated with this product too! Formulated for: Dogs and puppies older than 6 weeks of age can receive Revolution safely as well as pregnant and nursing dogs as necessary. How does this medication work? The active ingredient in Revolution is Selamectin which induces paralysis of the affected parasites nervous system. Revolution for Dogs is effective against the following bugs: immature canine heartworms (Dirofilaria immitis),adult fleas (Ctenocephalides felis). ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), American dog tick infestations, and sarcoptic mange mites. This medication also prevents flea eggs from hatching for one month. What results can I expect? Revolution kills heartworms in their immature stage preventing the adult heartworms from developing. Adult heartworms can cause illness in your dog. This medication also provides adequate protection against worms that your dog was exposed to in the preceding month. Often times, ear mites in dogs are killed with one treatment but follow-up treatments may also be necessary. Revolution can also effectively control and treat sarcoptic mange and American dog ticks. Fleas should generally be killed within 36 hours of application. Sometimes, fleas can linger for longer periods especially in dogs that were infested with fleas prior to treatment. Revolution for Dogs is a liquid which is applied on your dogs skin (topically) each month. Each individual dose is based on your dogs body weight. This medication is available in boxes containing 3, 6, or 12 monthly applications. Generic Name: Selamectin (Common Drug Name) Common Brand Name: Revolution (Pfizer Animal Health) Dose and Administration: Your veterinarian will determine the appropriate dose and frequency of Revolution for your dog but dosing is typically based on your dogs body weight. Always follow your veterinarians instructions regarding the use of this medication. If you do not understand the directions given by your veterinarian, call him/her in order to ensure you are using Revolution properly. Each individual dose containsthe proper amount of medication for your dog so do not split the contents of each vial. It is imperative that you apply Revolution properly in order to ensure that it is effective. For proper application: 1. Hold each tube containing the medication liquid securely and press the cap down in order to break the seal. Check to make the tube is open. Then, part the hair at base of your dogs neck until you can see his/her skin. Place the tube at the desired area and squeeze out all of the liquid in until the tube has been emptied. 2. Ensure that the tube is empty before discarding. Wait at least 2 or more hours after applying Revolution before bathing. 3. Give Revolution as soon as you remember if you happen to miss a dose. If more than one monthly dose of Revolution has been missed, you should call your veterinarian for further directions before re-starting this medication. 4.
